From Daryl Magoulick

Greetings Tom,

How are all my friends at S&W? I am doing as well as can be expected over here in the "Big Sand Box". I am on Joint Base Balad where there is an Air Force hospital. Things here have been on the slower side and not as busy as they have previously been in years prior. Much of the fighting is now over. Occassionaly we get a trauma here and there but not like back in prior years here. As with all things, the less busier you are, the more likely you are to find or go looking for trouble. However, I have been keeping busy in the gym, reading, and watching movies. I finally took a dip in the outdoor pool (yes there is an indoor one too) yesterday. It was very refreshing, invigorating, and for a brief moment I thought I wasn't deployed! Then reality came rushing back like the dust storms that frequent this area a few times a week.

Anyways, just wanted to drop a line and send a pic. I will keep in touch.

CRNA of the Year

Congratulations to Summer on her selection as CRNA of the year.  In addition to excellent clinical skills, Summer has been identified as a "satisfaction star" from feedback forms completed by S&W patients.  She brought credit to the organization by volunteering her time to go to Haiti for earth quake relief.  Again, congratulations to Summer for a well deserved award.

Kudos!

All patients are sent a survey after their visit to Scott & White for treatment.  Based on the surveys, Scott & White identifies “satisfaction stars” each month.  Summer Lawlis and Paul Basak were selected as a satisfaction stars for the month of April.  Kudos to both.  They bring credit to the excellent work done by our entire group of CRNAs.  Again Kudos to Summer and Paul and a sincere thank you to our entire group.

Russell K. McAllister, M.D. was recently awarded the Outstanding Program Director Award at Scott & White Healthcare for his leadership in anesthesia resident education. He was chosen by the members of the Graduate Medical Education Committee from among 36 residency/fellowship programs.

Dr. McAllister, an associate professor of anesthesiology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and staff anesthesiologist at Scott & White, was selected for “his efforts leading his program to excellence in multiple areas of success of the residents in his residency program, including high-quality education, research participation, and quality of patient care delivered,” said Donald E. Wesson, M.D., Vice Dean, Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine and Chief Academic Officer, Scott & White. Dr. McAllister received a plaque and a cash award.

The criteria for selection, according to Dr. Sandra Oliver, Director of Graduate Medical Education – Operations for Scott & White, was based on the success of residents completing the educational process and passing certification examinations, the number of external publications/presentations by the residents, and the success of recruitment into the program. “Dr. McAllister has taken the anesthesia program to a level of excellence, as documented in the educational success of his residents. He is selfless in his dedication to the anesthesia resident program and to GME at Scott & White,” she said.
